Creative Drawing, Engraving and Collage

<<This workshop aims to stimulate the development of creativity and personal well-being through the practice of graphic arts and drawing. It consists of three interconnected modules (drawing, linocut, and collage). Through these, you will acquire essential skills in these techniques, allowing you to continue practicing them both at home and in future workshops. Additionally, we will explore how to use them as a way to feel and share ideas; as a means to appreciate our surroundings and portray ourselves within it.>>

This quarterly course, taught by artist Elio Jesús Fonseca, is designed to guide you through a creative process across three artistic disciplines: drawing, linocut, and collage. Over 11 sessions, participants will explore key techniques and concepts to develop their own style and express themselves through art.

Creative Drawing: You will learn to master the basics of drawing, from the technical to the expressive. The exercises will allow you to use drawing as a tool to capture ideas, observe your surroundings, and discover your own self-representation. Simple and accessible materials will be used, and creativity will be encouraged through experimentation, as well as the integration of color and other techniques.

Linocut: You will be introduced to the technique of engraving, creating matrices and printing on paper. You will learn how to use the appropriate tools and understand the entire creation process, from design to printing. Furthermore, you will receive the keys to continue exploring this technique independently after completing the course.

Collage: You will experiment with collage as a mixed media technique, integrating what you have learned in drawing and engraving. You will work with different materials and textures, creating original and unique compositions. This module aims to expand your creative possibilities by combining various artistic disciplines.

Target Audience: This course is open to adults and young people over 12 years old, with no prior experience in art required. Only an interest in creativity and a desire to experiment with new techniques is needed.

Materials:

All necessary materials and tools for the course will be provided, except for any specific materials the student may wish to bring if they want to experiment with a technique or material not included in the program.

About the Teacher:

Elio Jesús is a visual artist whose work addresses the fragility of human nature. He graduated from the Vicentina De la Torre Academy of Arts in Camagüey, Cuba, in 2014 and later from the University of the Arts ISA in Havana, Cuba, in 2019. Elio has over 10 years of experience as a visual artist and creative professional. His work has been exhibited in numerous shows, including the 6th London Art Biennale, UK, 2023; the 17th Arte Laguna Prize, Venice, Italy, 2023; the Contemporary Art Week in Mexico City, Mexico, 2020; ARCO Fair, Madrid, Spain, 2020; and the 13th Havana Biennale, Cuba, 2019. Recent solo exhibitions include Exposition Dialogue, Brownstone Foundation, Paris, France, 2024; Vestigios y Alucinaciones, Cehegín Archaeological Museum, Murcia, 2024; Restos del día, Gorria Workshop Gallery, Havana, 2023; and Otras formas de volver, Tomás y Valiente Art Center, Madrid, 2022. He has also received awards and grants, including the Real Casa de la Moneda (RCM-FNMT) grant, Madrid, 2023; the Creation Grant from the Young Art Fund, Havana, 2024; and the Académie des Beaux-Arts - Bernard Grau Foundation Grant, Paris 2024. He is currently completing a Master's degree in Engraving and Graphic Design at the RCM-FNMT School while working at the Del Prado Workshop in Madrid.
